Risk Disclosure

As the primary person booking with Summit Explorers, you are responsible for ensuring that all members of your group understand the risks involved in participating in this activity. Before you participate in this activity, it is a NZ Government requirement that all members are required to understand and sign a risk disclosure form. Parents and guardians will need to sign on behalf of each child under 18 years old.

All members in the party will need to read, understand and sign a risk disclosure form prior to the trip. Children under 18 will require a parent or legal guardian to complete this for them.

The content of the risk disclosure is shown below. A form will need to be completed and submitted prior to commencement of the trip, so please ensure all participants understand the contents.

A link to fill in the form can be found on the Terms and Conditions page on the Summit Explorers website, or a form will be provided on the day of the trip, to be completed before we depart town.

Risk Disclosure Form contents

Please read this document carefully. By signing below, you acknowledge that you understand and accept the risks associated with the activities provided by Summit Explorers. This is a legally binding waiver.

1. Risk Acknowledgment

I understand and acknowledge that the activities offered by Summit Explorers — including but not limited to day walk, day hike, multi-day hike and trekking and ancillary activities such as transportation to the activities by vehicle or helicopter — involve inherent risks, that although Summit Explorers will manage these risks they cannot be completely eliminated. These risks may result in serious personal injury, property damage and/or loss, or death.

I acknowledge that natural hazards, including but not limited to steep or unstable ground, cliffs, rockfall, slips, exposure to cold or inclement weather, are an inherent part of these activities. I understand that such hazards may occur at any time during the course of the activity, including while traveling to or from the location.

I am aware that these activities are conducted in remote environments where emergency medical assistance may be delayed or unavailable.

2. Safety and Participation

I agree to follow all instructions provided by Summit Explorers guides and staff and to use all safety equipment as directed. Summit Explorers reserves the right to remove any individual whose behaviour or condition may, in the opinion of the guides, compromise their own safety or that of others. Summit Explorers may also cancel or modify an activity for safety reasons at their sole discretion.

3. Medical Disclosure and Personal Responsibility

I confirm that I have disclosed all relevant medical conditions prior to departure and that I am responsible for bringing and managing any required medications throughout the duration of the trip.

I accept full responsibility for obtaining and maintaining my own personal insurance, including ACC cover (if applicable), travel insurance, and any other coverage necessary for injuries, property damage, loss, or changes to travel plans.

4. Third-Party Services and Unforeseen Circumstances

I acknowledge that Summit Explorers is not responsible for the conduct of third-party providers of transportation, accommodation, or other goods and services, nor for any additional expenses, delays, or losses incurred due to circumstances beyond their control.

5. Waiver

By signing this document, I voluntarily assume all risks associated with the activities offered by Summit Explorers.
